Two good hikes one easy and one challenging with small water falls after the rainy season. It's called little Yosemite.
Bring so close to the cities and Bay Area and yet really feeling like you are out in the back country is fantastic. If you can put up with some cows, and there not being many water sources in late summer, you'll have a great time
Beautiful surroundings enjoy the hikes without getting lost :) Easy hikes too for kids to enjoy the wilderness. Do a sit little Yosemite in sunol
A large open space preserve/park with many hiking trails. Minimal trees so most trails are in the open. Hiking is good during the cooler months only. Not recommended to visit in the summer months as this area gets very hot with complete sun exposure.
Very nice, accessible space with great variation in the terrain. The "Little Yosemite" creek canyon adds a great distraction from the typical open hills of the area, and there's enough forested trail that you can escape the sun for a little while. A little diversion into the Cave Rocks is worth the time, too! The only real downside is that all that also draws fairly large crowds, and since it's a great place to get kids outside on "real"hiking trails where you can tromp through streams, lots of families. It's wonderful to see the little ones out having fun and enjoying nature, but does make for congestion in several areas where the main trail is fairly narrow.
